PRIMARY OBJECTIVE: To develop and provide supports to family members
affected by substance misuse.
ROLE: The role of the Family Support Project Worker will be to provide
a non-judgemental, confidential support service to people who have
been adversely affected by a family member or friend?s drug or
alcohol use.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director of services of Vita House & WRDATF
Family Support Co-ordinator.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES:
* Provide information and support to individuals and families in
relation to substance use and its potential impacts.
* To offer evidence-based interventions for individuals and families
which reduce the negative impacts of substance misuse. This may
include facilitating groups.
* Promote and safeguard the welfare of children, young people and
vulnerable adults who access support.
* Raise awareness of, and improve, access to other appropriate
support for family members.
* To work as part of an integrated network of professionals
supporting individuals and families affected by substance misuse.
* To work towards achieving the goals of the current underpinning
WRDATF Family Support Strategy.
* Appropriate and efficient referrals to other services which meet
the holistic needs of individuals and families e.g. counselling,
mental health support, Tusla, housing support, domestic violence
services.
* To keep accurate and up-to-date records of work undertaken
including case files, while abiding to data protection policies.
* Attend regular meetings with family support coordinator including
team meetings, supervision etc
* Attend team meetings in Vita House and WRDATF
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
* 3rd level qualification in a related field
* Minimum 2 years? experience working with individuals, families
and communities.
* An ability to engage with and support family members in an
empathetic and sensitive manner.
* An understanding of the complexity of addiction and the effects of
this on individuals, families and communities.
* Open and innovative approach to work
* Ability to work independently while also contributing to
collaborative working as part of larger teams/networks
* Excellent communication skills, IT proficient
* Driver?s license & access to car
DESIRABLE:
* Knowledge of drug & alcohol issues, family programmes and youth
based interventions
* Experience of interagency working in a similar setting
OTHER:
* Garda vetting will apply
* Flexibility required in working hours
